RE: Current fuel in GA and NC

Raleigh, N.C. — Gov. Mike Easley’s office Tuesday said no counties or cities were reporting gas or diesel outages, following nearly a month of gas shortages at the state’s pumps.
All fuel terminals in the state reported diesel was in stock, according to a press release Tuesday.
Officials in western North Carolina counties and in the Charlotte area said gas deliveries were improving, according to a press released Tuesday.
A few sporadic outages in areas, including the Triangle, continued, but the long lines from the past two weeks in the western counties have diminished, officials said.

RE: Leveling blocks for tandem axle

I use 2x10's about 5 feet long with 45 degree angles cut at each end. Words of wisdom ! Place a small 2x4 about a foot long sideways in front of the 2x10 making like a little ramp. As you pull your TT onto the 2x4 block, it will twist the 2x4 block slightly upwards until the weight of the tire goes onto the 2x10. If you do not do this, the 2x10 can lift up into the air and punch a hole in your flooring. Done it, been there !
If you use two 2x10s stacked on top of each other, you'll need three short 2x4 blocks as a little ramp

RE: what typ of tow vehicle do you need to tow 9000lbs

Had a 9,000 lb TT and pulled it with a 2500 Dodge with the 360 ci engine. 410 gearing and automatic. Worked just fine towing on flat land or slight hills. However, on steep hills or up thru the mountains, the speed dropped down a lot. Replaced the truck with a 2004 Dodge CTD and auto with .410 gearing. As much difference as day and night. Can now tow up thru steep mountains such as I-40 Black Mountain in NC and never slow down. There is less stress on a disel engine than gas. My humble recommendation is a diesel and it will last you a lot longer than a gasser. Do watch out for Dodge trucks around 2003 and older as the older transmissions had problems. 48RE ones are rock solid

So if you lost your job................

Lets say you have worked in corporate America for 29 years in telecommunications (Nortel) and about to loose your job. Have a 13 and 10 year old that loves to go camping with the TT. House and cars are paid for. However, need to take care of the kids for 8+ more years. What would you do ? Going from 5 weeks vacation a year for strictly camping to maybe 2 weeks starting all over again. Would you start your own little business or go back into the rat race again ? There are those out there probably wiser than myself.
This work environment we are in is really tough and depressing !

RE: Truck Overheating While Towing

Blocked radiator; internal & external
Thermostat not opening up far enough
Fluid level checked in radiator
Brakes sticking on trailer
Radiator fan clutch defective
Engine timing off
Blown head gasket
Cat convertor stopped up
Anyone added stop leak to the antifreeze ? Core stopped up
Cracked block or head
Radiator cap defective
Are you using Dex-cool anti freeze ? If so, there is a lawsuit on this again GM

I've had both thru work. To be honest, I've had more problems with my latest laptop.....HP. Work at corporate America and lots of my peers had problems as well. That is a general comments and not comparing any specific model to another

RE: KOA IN CHEROKEE NC

Our family stayed there last year and did not enjoy it. Check this link http://www.rvparkreviews.com/regions/North_Carolina/
If you have a larger TT / RV, you'll probably need to get one of the super sites that is paved. We will never go back.

RE: intertstate 77 from ohio to north carolina

I've pulled a TT from NC to OH on I-77. My only comment would be to follow the speed limit and use caution as the interstate has some sharp turns and steep embankments. There is a section around the NC/VA mountains with warnings concerning high winds. Do keep that in mind as you're motorhome will be effected by high winds. And if heading eastern NC, take NC52 as it will save you some time. Just follow the signs closely

RE: Flow master

Have Flowmaster series 50 on my 2004 Dodge CTD. Nice rumble as others stated. No HP gain but it will drop EGT around 100 degrees due to better air flow.

RE: Awning sail...does it need replaced?

I bent one awning arm and they are rather expensive to replace. Think around $125-$150 each. Plus, unless you know what you are doing, they are under a lot of spring torsion and will rip your hands to shreads. You may also want to closely check the metal bracket in which is mounted on the side of the TT which the awning slides thru. If it is bent or flared, the awning will pop out later with higher breezes. For all the work involved, I'd turn it in on the insurance
I do belive that there is a small hole on the end of the roller tubes in which you can insert a small nail to keep it from spinning like crazy when you disconnect the awning arm and roller tube

RE: Transmission temp hotter than normal?

I'd still recommend taking it in to the dealer for a transmission flush. Heat will destroy a transmission, the higher the faster it is destroyed. Have you checked the fluid color & smell ? If burnt smelling or darker color, it is running too hot.

RE: Transmission temp hotter than normal?

I'd check with the dealer. Flushing removes particles / material that can still be left in the lines, cooler, etc. Towing a 31 ft TT, I have my Dodge CTD transmission flushed every 2 years
Also, have you checked to ensure you do not have blockage on the radiator where the transmission cooler is located ? Bugs etc
Is your engine running higher than normal temperature ? If your engine is running hotter, the radiator may be getting hotter which may inadvertly allow poorer cooling for the transmission cooler
Are you towing in overdrive ? Overdrive I do believe allows less coolant to flow from the transmission to the cooler and might make it run hotter.

RE: Transmission temp hotter than normal?

Almost sounds like your transmission filter is blocking fluid flow. I'd consider taking it to a good mechanic / good dealer and have a transmission flush performed.

RE: price of CTD service

you'll need to order a socket type wrench cap large enough to fit on the end of the filter. Car part stores don't carry them large enough to fit. You'll need several rachet extensions between the oil filter wrench cap and the socket. Good idea to wear surgical gloves changing the oil.
When removing the plug from the drain pan, get ready for a LOT of oil to come out at once. You'll need a oil pan large enough to hold all the oil and remove the air vent so the oil can drain in without overflowing. At times, you may have to place your finger over the drain hole to slow the oil flow down.
MAKE SURE to ensure the old filter gasket is not left onto the engine block. They sometimes stick
You need to fill the new oil filter with oil prior to installing it. Only hand tighten the filter back on. Otherwise you'll have a tough time getting it off next time
Look for plastic / nylon funnel about the same size as the oil fill. Snug fit makes it easier to add oil. I use Rotella but it will have a bit of a smell for a hundred miles or so.
To change the fuel filter, you'll need two rachet extensions and a swivel plus a torque wrench. Setting is stamped on the cap. DO NOT overtighten. Drain the fuel before removing the filter via the yellow drain valve. Close the valve and remove / replace the filter. You may have to turn the key on and off a couple times til the fuel filter cannister is filled back up
